Why is Sustainable Development Important?

Sustainable development has a huge role to play in protecting the planet, and nowhere is it more important than in construction.

The construction industry generally has a large carbon footprint so businesses that show a commitment to sustainability and adopting eco-friendly practices represent the future.

There are some common features of sustainable construction in Australia: using recycled materials wherever possible, sourcing the right products, possessing all the right certification, and obtaining a green building rating.

Urbanline’s Commitment to Sustainability

The building and architectural solutions from Urbanline use innovative, sustainable materials in products such as composite decking and sustainable cladding.

Wherever possible we take a fully sustainable approach, meaning you will see the following materials used:

  • Recycled wood fibres
  • Western Red Cedar, which produces fewer greenhouse gases, generates less water and air pollution, and requires less energy to produce than alternatives
  • Products from reclaimed and recycled materials
  • Hardwood sourced from approved suppliers
  • Thermally modified FSC cladding sourced from New Zealand

Our composite cladding, panelling, decking and screening products feature recycled timber fibres mixed with virgin and recycled plastics, while others use a mix of natural minerals and polymer resins.

The Western Red Cedar we use has PEFC™ certification, meaning that it originates from sustainably-managed forests and respects the highest ecological, social and ethical standards.

Many of our products carry the Green Tag Certified Platinum rating and are world-leading in terms of environmentally conscious practice; they contain no toxic or health impacting chemicals; and they are eco-friendly at all stages of production, use and end of life.

Environmental Impacts

Sustainable development aims to have low negative environmental impact. This applies not only in the materials and installation processes used but over the project's life cycle:

  • Energy and material efficiency in construction, operation and maintenance.
  • High ratio of renewable and clean materials
  • Land use efficiency
  • Sustainable processes and technologies
